Napa Vine Trail: Choose a Completed Section for Your Bike Day
Plan a Vine Trail outing around a completed section and your group’s cycling ability.

Plan a Vine Trail outing around a completed section and your group’s cycling ability. The route is being developed in stages, so a valley-wide map should not be read as a continuous finished path.
Specific stops and a practical route
Choose one completed section, reserve suitable bikes and ride a manageable out-and-back with a food break. Keep wine tasting for another part of the trip.
If the group is not comfortable cycling, walk a shorter appropriate section instead of renting bikes simply because the trail appears flat on a map.

Choose the section before renting
The Vine Trail lists completed sections including Napa–Yountville, St. Helena–Calistoga and Vallejo–American Canyon. Pick one and check the current map and notices. Do not let navigation send you onto a road gap simply to connect two sections. A shorter out-and-back can be a better choice than a long one-way ride with uncertain pickup arrangements.
Match the bicycle to the group
Ask a rental provider about sizing, helmets, assistance options, repair arrangements and return times before paying. Agree on a distance based on the least confident rider. If using an electric bike, understand the controls before joining the route. Leave time for a practice ride and make a plan for someone who wants to turn back early.
Keep tasting out of the riding plan
Use the ride for scenery and a meal break rather than combining alcohol with cycling. Yountville can be a food stop on the appropriate section, but check the route to the actual business and where bicycles may be secured. Carry water and account for weather. Finish with enough energy to return the bikes and reach your accommodation comfortably.
