Kapalua Coastal Trail: Pick a Turnaround Before You Start

Kapalua’s coastal route is a different outing from its ridge and village trails.

Kapalua’s coastal route is a different outing from its ridge and village trails. Choose the coastal walk deliberately, check current access and decide how far you want to go before leaving your starting point.

Do not choose the wrong trail

Kapalua’s official trail page lists several routes, including a much more demanding ridge hike. Read the coastal description and map rather than following a generic Kapalua hiking result. Pick a clear start and turnaround that fit your group. A route continuing between beaches still requires a plan to return to your vehicle or arrange pickup.

Allow for surfaces and weather

Wear shoes suitable for the route and bring water and sun protection. Do not assume the entire coastal outing is a smooth resort promenade. Follow posted access rules and stay back from exposed edges and rough water. If anyone has mobility needs, confirm the specific section rather than relying on the general word coastal in the description.

Choose a local meal from the directory

Kapalua’s site lists options including Honolua Store and The Pour House. Compare their current menus and hours before deciding where to finish. A casual stop and a shorter walk may suit your group better than a long route followed by a formal reservation. From a South Maui base, account for the drive back and avoid adding another distant excursion automatically.
